5 KEY THINGS TO HELP YOU GO FROM WAITING TO DOING
You like someone, you wait for her to tilt her head in a particular direction, or push her hair back, or look at you with a smile, before you ever talk to her…
Yeah that was me.
Or in business, I kept imagining the perfect scene. Waiting for the perfect capital, perfect conditions.
And many times, I just prayed, and waited for God to do what I should do for myself.
Well, life is a hard teacher. By the time it deals with you, you will adjust and learn.
I’ve always wanted to write for a living for instance, but it took my Fmcg business getting burnt for me to get serious about blogging.
I remember that day very well.
I’ve always written stuff. Then later on, I started a blog. But I waited for things to be perfect to start writing and publishing…
One month later, my business premises caught fire.
Same day, I advised myself by myself, and I published my first article.
Nonsense and waiting.
Are you a waiter or a doer? How long will you continue waiting before you start taking action on your dreams?
I know you are probably thinking that I am one invincible ‘doer’… Hmm.
To be honest, I still find myself in the waiting room at times.
But these days, I don’t stay there for too long.
Below, I have shared 5 key things that help me go from waiting to doing. They will help you too.
Read, comment, and share.
1. TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY.
You have planned enough. You have asked enough questions. You have done enough trainings too. You have analyzed those plans for too long. You’ve thought enough.
Take action today.
It may be the wrong one. But take it all the same.
Even if you make a mistake, you can make adjustments. The most important thing is that you have started moving.
2. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS AND BREAK THEM DOWN INTO SMALL CHUNKS
Two days ago, I complained to someone about how I felt overwhelmed with all the goals I seem to have. And she simply reminded me that I need to break them down, and follow them one by one.
Do you want to write books?
It’s not enough to know it. Write them down as clearly as possible. And put deadlines to it.
A goal without a deadline is a wish.
Focus on writing just one chapter. Or one scene. Or one paragraph. Or one story at a time.
Apply this to your goals too. Write them down, then break them down.
3. BE ACCOUNTABLE
Two weeks ago, I asked someone to be my accountability partner. I wrote down all the things I wanted to do and sent to her, with their deadlines.
This young lady took it up o. She started haunting my life.
Toby, I want to see your progress report.
Send it to my email before 9am.
Have you done this? Have you done that? What about this? That one nko? Don’t try me o….
Initially it looked like a joke, but she was serious.
I sat up! No more excuses. I had to account to someone, and I couldn’t afford to give a negative report.
Start moving. But keep asking questions.
When I started blogging, I read lots and lots of articles and asked lots of questions.
I joined lots of groups like A-ha now and so many others and related with other bloggers, asking them questions and learning from them.
That’s how I met my dear friend Laiza by the way.
5. PICTURE SUCCESS
One of my success models, Bishop Oyedepo, usually says that if you can really see how great your tomorrow is, you won’t be depressed today.
Create a vision board. Put pictures of your accomplished goals there. Write them down as affirmations and read them out.
For example, one of my affirmations is “I’m a most sought after public speaker and writer”.
Another one reads, “I inspire millions of people for success through my writing and speaking”.
I went further and pasted a picture of myself on suit, on a red carpet, looking like a celebrity author.
If you saw it back then, you may just admire the pic. But to me, it meant something else.
It was my future, and seeing it inspired me to stop waiting and start doing.
Friends, the future doesn’t really belong to dreamers. It belongs to the dreamers who were able to wake up and act on their dreams.
You’ve dreamt and waited for too long. Start acting now!
Which one of these steps can you take today?
